Dealing with Anxiety

The deepest realisation we can come to is that even though we may be going through our toughest pain, life doesn’t stop, it keeps going, life changes, people are going on with their lives and experiencing all sorts of life experiences so all we can do is put one step in front of the other, go to work, go to events, put a smile on our face even when you just want to curl up in bed and not move for days.

But you can’t so you continue to smile, make conversation, put one foot in front of the other because it’s all we can do not to fall into the abyss, it’s tough. It is even tougher because unless you walk in someone else’s shoes, people will never understand what you are truly going through and you don’t want to be the Debbie Downer but it’s okay! Take it minute by minute because sometimes surviving the next minute is like surviving the next 10 years. Breathe - be easy on yourself.

Please, keep going. Don’t give up. All you have to do is get through today. Twenty-four hours. 1,440 minutes, 3,600 seconds. That’s all you need to do right now. I know you’re tired even though you just woke up but just do your best today. That’s all anyone can ask of you. That’s all you can ask of yourself. Don’t push yourself too much.

Breathe. Shower. Brush your teeth. Change out of your pajamas. Get something done. It doesn’t matter how small it is. When you feel like the world is too overwhelming, you have to stop being so hard on yourself. Stop being so hard on yourself. Stop assuming that you aren’t accomplishing anything worthwhile.

Today doesn’t have to be the day you find your forever person or land your dream job or finish the project you once started. Today doesn’t have to be the day that you turn your entire life around.

I know you’re scared to fail. So much so, you’re striving for perfection and you beat yourself up every time you fall short. You’re your own worst enemy and I’m here to tell you, you don’t need to be.

I know you’re worrying and continuously overthinking. Everyone is telling you to relax. But you can’t seem to.

I know your heart is racing but you disguise it with a smile. In those moments where anxiety is controlling you, take a deep breath. Do whatever you need to that will calm your nerves. It’s okay to be like this and you don’t need to change. Just learn to breathe through it. To accept it, and conquer it.

Today is just another day you have to make it through. You shouldn’t be mad at yourself for going through this. You should be proud of yourself for every new hour you fight, for every new day you survive. Because sometimes that’s the hardest thing you will ever have to do.

So, keep making it until tomorrow. Every single day, that should be your goal. Make it until tomorrow. And the next tomorrow. And the next. And the next.

Eventually, you’ll be able to add more goals to your list. Make it until tomorrow and meet your friends for dinner. Make it until tomorrow and start doing something you loved again. Make it until tomorrow and buy a plane ticket across the country.

One day, living will be easier. But even once that happens, even once you reach a good place in your life, there will be still days when you suffer from setbacks. There will still be days when you have to remind yourself that all you have to do is make it until tomorrow.
